If you are not sure what this means, let me help you understand what customer service is. It is the ability to work with your company’s clients in a professional manner. In the education field it is described as soft skills. Soft skills is communicating clearly, including enunciating your words so others understand you versus speaking fast and mumbling; critical thinking which is about the ability to think before you speak and consider how your answer will affect others and how it reflects upon your company – many times employees are quick to handle a situation to get it off their desk or the phone and say anything to complete the situation, there are more topics to critical thinking but this is a common situation when working in a company; handling an irate customer professionally which means that you consider the customer’s point of view and assume they are right no matter if they are wrong – it is important to agree with their feelings and respectfully help them understand the situation and it is very important that the customer is treated in a friendly manner no matter if they are angry and yelling at you, your calm demeanor helps to diffuse an angry situation. There are more customer service skills which I will discuss later. In the meantime, thank you for reading this blog and I hope it helps you.
Have a great day!
Aloha,
Signe Godfrey, President of Olsten
A tradition of dependable staffing, executive search and community service
As Olsten Staffing and Executive Search services celebrates 25 years of serving the local business community, owner Signe Godfrey credits her company’s success to its balance of corporate resources and its community orientation. “We have the best of both worlds,” she says. “We have the resources of the world’s largest staffing service and a long-term relationship with Honolulu’s businesses.”
The corporate resources that Signe touts begin with Olsten’s history as a 50-year-old company started by William Olsten in New York City. During his first few years, Mr. Olsten assisted local housewives in finding jobs and purchased a van to help transport them to work. By his death in 1991, Olsten had over 700 staffing offices across the country that were helping people find employment and helping businesses find workers.
Over the years, Signe has seen how the Internet and other new technology have fostered growth and enabled her firm to work smarter and more efficiently. Olsten’s corporate office provides a technology system superior to any staffing service in the country, ensuring both efficient practices and exemplary customer service for client companies.
Olsten Hawaii has been proudly serving since 1987. Together, Signe’s local team of 10 has over 150 years of staffing, executive search, and human resource experience. They keep a finger on the pulse of Honolulu business, serving the fields of office technology; general office support; accounting and finance; engineering; architecture; legal support; information management; sales and marketing; and all levels of management including executive-level positions.
Though the frenzy of day-to-day business is; at times, all-consuming, Signe is an active member in the community, serving on the boards of many organizations including the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii. Having been a member for over 20 years, Signe presently serves on its board of directors and is the chair of the workforce development and education pillar committee, giving voice to objectives that will develop a stronger workforce and economy. She is also the incoming chair for the Salvation Army board and is presently serving as its Partners In Service chair. Signe also contributes time to Hina Mauka, a drug treatment organization, the Rotary Club of Honolulu, FLEF, and CP Hui, an organization that provides financial and educational guidance to children who are transitioning out of foster care and into adulthood. Serving the community to better the lives of those under-served is one of Signe’s utmost passions.
Signe and her staff at Olsten believe that accountability for their community and its needs is the key to business success. This tenet has driven company growth and ensured candidates are well matched with clients through efficient and effective service. After all, Olsten Hawaii’s motto is “helping business by helping people.”
